3,960 homes in LaSalle lost power after a storm passed through the area Wednesday afternoon. At about 4:13 p.m., the Essex Power Lines Corporation said it experienced power outages in various areas of town. Crews were dispatched, but the restoration time is currently unknown. At approximately 3:58 p.m., power was restored to 2,986 customers in LaSalle who also lost power.

More than 800 people in the communities of Campbell River and the Comox Valley were affected by power outages due to a storm with strong winds and rain. The storm also caused trees to fall. As Eigler says, "I've never seen wind and rain like this and I've been here since '67. Karla Louwers of BC Hydro said, "We saw significant damage from the falling trees. "The Courtenay district was one of those where we had several spans of downed power lines and crews had to make extensive repairs before power could be restored."

Manitoba First Nations Power Outage Likely Caused by Forest Fire Damage

Manitoba Hydro suspects that the cause of the power outage in a number of Manitoba First Nations and communities is due to damage caused by a forest fire. The power line that supplies Berens River, Bloodvein, Little Grand Rapids, Poplar River, Loon Straits, Pauingassi and Manigotagan is down, according to a spokesperson for the Crown Corporation. Manitoba Hydro's map shows 2,000 customers affected. Crews will patrol the line to determine the exact cause of the outages once the situation is safe, Manitoba Hydro says.
